FEATURE Wiley-X Black Ops Polarized SUMMARY The big news for 2013 is the availability of polarized lenses in the three top-selling Black Ops styles: the full-frame WX Censor and WX Twisted and the half-frame WX Valor. Polarized lenses eliminate glare; LCD devices like smartphones and tablets are still easy to read. MORE INFORMATION www.wileyx.com WILEY-X BLACK OPS POLARIZED BLACK OPS EYEWEAR NOW HAS BENEFITS OF POLARIZED LENSES. By LAW and ORDER Staff The Black Ops WX Valor offers heavyweight ballistic protection in a lightweight half-frame. The Valor is now available with glareeliminating polarized lenses. T he Wiley-X Black Ops Collection, so popular in law enforcement, is now available with polarized lenses. Tinted, non-polarized lenses continue to remain available on all Black Ops eyewear. The famous Black Ops Collection includes 12 styles of eyewear: AirRage, Brick, Censor, Gravity, P-17, Revolver, Rush, Saint, Slay, Twisted, Valor and Zak. For 2013, Wiley-X is adding polarized lenses to the top three in this line: WX Censor, WX Twisted and WX Valor. All three of these Black Ops styles are also RX-ready. That means the ANSI-approved frames can accommodate prescription glasses up to +6.00/-6.00 Total Power. The frames can be ftted with either conventional or digital prescription lenses. The big news for 2013 is the availability of polarized lenses in the three top-selling Black Ops styles. Wiley-X uses Filter 8™ laminated and coated lenses: two Slick™ hydrophobic coatings, two Selenite™ polycarbonate lenses, two T-Shell™ scratch-resistant 50 LAW and ORDER I June 2013 layers and one Violet 4™ anti-refective coating. Between the two polycarbonate lenses is one Filter 8 polarized flm layer, which forms 100 percent polarization with 100 percent Ultraviolet A and UVB protection. Eliminate Glare Polarized lenses eliminate glare on the highway, on the water, in urban settings. Glare is sunlight bounced off horizontal surfaces: glass, metal, water, snow…whatever. Since the surfaces are horizontal, the refected sunlight is also horizontal. Polarized lenses have a laminated flter that only permits vertical-oriented light to pass. By blocking horizontal-oriented light, refective glare is eliminated. The result is glare-free, low eye-fatigue vision in both bright sun and bright haze. Polarized lenses, depending on the lens color, generally allow better visualization of different colors than tinted, non-polarized lenses. They also offer more UV protection. Unlike polarized lenses, the dark tints in non-polarized lenses cause the eye to dilate more to let in more light, which also lets in more UV rays. Polarized lenses also have a UV flter in the polarized layer.
