PREVIEW SUMMARY Police Fleet Expo heads to Charlotte with everything you're looking for: networking, knowledge and amazing activities, such as the attendee- favorite "Dinner with a Stranger." MORE INFORMATION www.PoliceFleetExpo.com August 13 – 16, 2012 By Dennis Tucker 2012 F POLICE FLEET EXPO IS GOING EAST TO CHARLOTTE! or the first time, the Police Fleet Expo is trav- eling East. We chose the exciting city of Char- lotte, N.C. to host the Expo, August 13 – 16, 2012. Charlotte is home to the NASCAR Hall of Fame and the Charlotte Motor Speedway. This gives us the opportunity to or- ganize events at various venues around the city to take advantage of everything Charlotte has to offer. Since 2004, police fleet professionals have attended the Po- lice Fleet Expo to network with their colleagues and be at the forefront to learn what's new for police fleets. PFE provides the venue for police fleet professionals and fleet personnel with po- lice responsibilities who are eager to improve and develop their skills, and need a dedicated police conference to address short and long-term needs. As budgets continue to tighten, as the rollout of new police vehicles continues; with the expansion of environmental regula- tions; and with technology your predecessor only dreamed of — it's more important than ever to have a one-stop shop to improve your skills, learn what's new, and network with colleagues. You can expect more than 15 hours of timely and valuable educational sessions. Educational sessions include individual classes from Chevrolet, Chrysler and Ford, providing timely information on police vehicles, service issues and important programs. They are also available to answer your specific questions and meet your needs. Whether you are a fleet vet- eran or have just been assigned to your position, the variety of classes will be sure to spark your interest and provide you with valuable information you can use in your daily tasks and for planning purposes. Class topics are wide and varied based on recommenda- tions by attendees. Classes begin with the Agency Network- ing Dialogues providing attendees an opportunity to network with their colleagues and discuss topics important to you in an informal environment. Specific topics include Public Safety An- tennas; Liability Risk; Fleet Operations; Lighting Technologies and Effectiveness; Alternative Police Vehicles; Tire Forensics; Getting the Most Out an RFP and Procurement. 18 LAW and ORDER I August 2012 In addition, Richard Flint will be speaking. From the United Kingdom, Flint is the Fleet Manager of the North Yorkshire Police Department and the Chairman of the National Association Po- lice Fleet Managers. Flint will discuss police fleet operations and trends in the U.K., as well as spending the week getting to know us and learning from networking with attendees and vendors. In addition to the structured classes, the exhibit hall is open for 8.5 hours offering aisle after aisle of the most up-to-date equipment, technology and services, providing you the tools to do your job. You will have plenty of time to roam more than 90,000 square feet of vendor displays. You will be able to exam- ine new equipment, discover new services and talk to vendors, find some cost saving ideas, put a plan together to replace out- dated equipment, inquire about outsourcing, and improve your department efficiency all in one place. Thank you, Rodney Monroe, Chief of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department for being our host agency and for their hos- pitality. Our sincere appreciation goes to Chief Monroe and his staff for their professionalism and making us feel welcome dur- ing our preparations for the Expo. You can look forward to being at Charlotte Motor Speedway for several activities including a Ride & Drive provided by the vehicle manufacturers and the opportunity to sit in the right seat of a NASCAR type vehicle while doing 165mph around the track! And get ready for some surprises at the track too. How about a night at the NASCAR Hall of Fame sponsored by SoundOff Signal and Setina Manufacturing? You can roam the halls with the legends honored there and participate in the interactive and stationary exhibits. To those attendees at the Expo, Welcome! And to those not here, I hope you read the Sept/Oct 2012 issue of Police Fleet Manager to learn about what we did in Charlotte and consider joining us in 2013. The Police Fleet Expo is here to meet your needs and extend your networking opportunities. I'm al- ways looking for new ideas to enhance the Expo, so if you have questions or suggestions, please contact myself, Dennis Tucker, Chair of the PFE at DTucker@hendonpub.com or Vice Chair Scott Coy at SCoy@hendonpub.com.
